Mary Potter Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for people living in Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti. We provide equitable, compassionate, patient- and whānau- centred, free-of-charge hospice care for patients, families, whānau and carers in the places they call home, and at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown.

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional Inpatient Unit Manager to join our team and lead the delivery and coordination of specialist palliative care within our Inpatient Unit (IPU). This role requires a leader who will inspire and manage a multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding, compassionate care to our patients and their whānau. You’ll also have the opportunity to advance palliative care best practices, drive service improvements, and collaborate with both internal and external partners to meet community needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management: Lead, motivate, and develop the IPU team, aligning with Mary Potter Hospice’s values and strategic goals.
  • Service Delivery: Oversee all aspects of service delivery, ensuring smooth operations, efficient resource management, and adherence to budget.
  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to improve care services and lead innovative solutions.
  • Quality & Education: Participate in quality assurance and clinical governance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development for the team.

Desired Skills and Experience

What we are looking for

  • A qualified health professional with a current practicing certificate (nursing preferred). A post-graduate qualification in palliative care is desirable.
  • Proven leadership experience in clinical management, with a strong understanding of change management and quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. A commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork and patient/family-centred care.
  • A solid understanding of the hospice philosophy and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with an appreciation for cultural diversity.
  • A current driver’s license is required.
