Mary Potter and Te Omanga hospices provide specialist palliative care for people living in Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, Porirua and Kāpiti. We provide compassionate, patient-centred, free-of-charge hospice care for patients, families, whānau and carers in their homes, and at our inpatient units in Newtown and Lower Hutt.

Job Description

The position:

This role is shared between two highly respected hospices, both using the same electronic healthcare record system, PalCare. In this position you work at both hospices ensuring PalCare functions as effectively and efficiently as possible.  The overall aim of the role is to ensure that PalCare is facilitating high quality patient care that clinical staff are using the system consistently and experience it as user-friendly, and that data can be used with confidence for benchmarking and analytics.

You will assist users with learning the system, system navigation, and troubleshooting so you will be a strong problem solver with high attention to detail and great teaching and interpersonal skills. Education of clinical staff will be in collaboration with the clinical education teams. The role also requires collaboration with leaders across both organisations to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical information systems so you will be an effective negotiator and communicator with the ability to interact with a wide range of people.

The role will be formally employed by Mary Potter Hospice, but also have a functional reporting line to a manager at Te Omanga Hospice. The role will be split between the hospices (32 hours/fortnight Te Omanga and 48 hours /fortnight Mary Potter) but some work e.g. staff training and induction will happen with groups of staff from both hospices.

To be considered for the role you will ideally have:

  • In depth knowledge and previous experience of Clinical Information Systems in healthcare (ideally PalCare) and a good knowledge of IT systems in general.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of understanding of clinical systems and services, data analysis, testing and administration.
  • Understanding of the systems for the sharing of health information across providers in the New Zealand health context.
  • Understand the collection, management, analysis, and application of organisation data.
  • Great communication skills and experience in education and user support of IT systems.
