Mary Potter Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for people living in Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti. We provide equitable, compassionate, patient- and whānau- centred, free-of-charge hospice care for patients, families, whānau and carers in the places they call home, and at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown.

Job Description

About the role:

Mary Potter Hospice is searching for a creative multi-talented Assistant Shop Manager for our Thorndon Retail Shop. This is varied role working closely with the Store Manager to help lead and develop a diverse volunteer team and oversee all aspects of operating a high-performing retail store. The hours for this role will be up to 30 hours (negotiable) per week from Monday to Saturday.

What you will do:

  • Ensure the store is welcoming, and customers choose to shop there
  • Manage the Volunteers to undertake their roles competently
  • Ensure that donors feel acknowledged and respected
  • Ensure that donated goods are of an acceptable quality and presented well for sale.

Desired Skills and Experience

You will need:

  • To be an extremely motivated and creative individual
  • To be comfortable with using technology
  • Look for ways to grow the business and inspire our valued volunteers
  • To have excellent communication skills
  • To be very people-focused and enjoy being part of a close-knit team environment.
  • NZ residency or a Valid Work visa
  • Full current driver's licence
