Mary Potter Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for people living in Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti. We provide equitable, compassionate, patient- and whānau- centred, free-of-charge hospice care for patients, families, whānau and carers in the places they call home, and at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown.

Job Description

About the position
Mary Potter Hospice is seeking to appoint a Māori Liaison/ Kaitakawaenga. The role offers support to Māori patients and whānau living in Porirua, Kāpiti and Wellington. This position is an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team. Working with staff and volunteers the role increases awareness of specialist palliative and hospice care with Māori communities. The position is part time for 24 hours per week.

This role will involve extensive liaison with a wide range of people and requires excellent whanaungatanga and communication skills. Understanding of, and ability to demonstrate kawa and tikanga with whānau is important to the success of this role. You should also have an understanding of the health and Palliative Care sectors.  

We need you to have a relevant qualification in health or social services, and/or Māori studies, and/or education.

This unique role calls for a special individual with a deep commitment to directly supporting Māori patients and whānau during a critical period in their lives.
